What a competition evening - it even snowed! The last day of November saw our first print trophy night of the 2017-8 session and it was very well supported. There were 43 entries for the WH Hammond portrait trophy and 44 for the JH Leighton open pictorial trophy. This produced a prodigious workload for our judge, Andrew Rothery, which he tackled with gusto and without skimping on the useful advice or the witty asides.

The Leighton trophy produced three '20's. 'Footprints on Bamburgh Beach' by Graham Binns (see header) was awarded first place with 'Taking a Snap Shot' by Andrew Holland second and 'On the Beach' by Don Crabtree third.

First in the WH Hammond Trophy for Portrait, People and Figure Study was 'The Veteran' by Don Crabtree with 'Ballerina on Toes' by Rais Hasan second, both scoring 20. As the only 19, Graham Binns' 'A Rose Among the Blossom' came in third.

A great evening, great prints and a great effort by Andrew who braved traffic and snow to entertain us. I hope he got back to Halifax OK.
